Mie Aloy [Still in Palembang.. ]

Ampera at night

Yes, still walking in and around the hometown of my husband, Palembang.

I'm here to boast to you about the most crowded noodle place in Palembang. They're only open during daytime and the noodles here really hit the spot! You have a choice between the regular egg noodles and the flat kwetiaw-like noodles. I'd personally go for the regular noodles, but my husband likes the flat ones. The regular noodles come with minced pork topping, but you can always order additional meat to be cooked with the soup. It's more like a self-service, you have a selection of pork innards (liver, colon, blood), dumplings, & ngohiang.

The condiments are also very interesting. Key limes, pickled chilies (cabe rawit), ground green chilies, and don't forget to sprinkle lots of ground white pepper. The last thing is a habit that my husband got me into. He's a merica-lover and adding lots of white pepper sprinkles really increases my appetite. Yum!

Since all we do is EAT eat EAT in Palembang, don't hesitate to order a half serving of noodles 'coz once your tummy is full, you can't really enjoy anything. However, that doesn't really apply for my husband... Hmm....

Mie Terang Bulan (Cin Cau Lok)

Just like in Jakarta, di Palembang, it's very common to have bakmie as breakfast. Unlike Mie Aloy, Mie Terang Bulan or commonly known as Cin Cau Lok, is only open at night. As a foodie, tentu saja saya dibikin penasaran oleh kedai mie satu ini karena konon rasanya lezat sekali (my husband is this place's advocate). My advice is, come in a bit earlier, around 4-5 pm and you'll (still) probably  get a seat in 15 minutes (they're open from 4 pm).

I've got to be honest, the pork noodle itself did not live up to my high (maybe too high) expectations. I found it  too sweet and the noodles too chewy (even for a chewy lover like myself!). So, I'm gonna leave it to my husband to speak for this noodle place he grew up with.

However, I found refuge in their boiled wontons (aka pangsit), the skin so silky and the filling, mm MM mm... so smooth and tasty! According to my father-in-law, this is the best boiled wontons they ever had. Wow, who knew...

Yo yo this is the husband. Nice to meet you all!
Palembang people would agree with me, this is the best noodle depot in town
the noodle is simple but very delicious with its dumpling (soup or fried), and also I suggest you to ask for boiled dumpling with green onion and tongcai as topping, very nice :)
Tetapih .... pelayanan disana pasti tidak anda sukai .... contohnya :
2. Kalo bungkus, jangan harap dikasih kuah kalo ga bawa tempat kuah
3. Kalo lagi rame, pas kita datang mau pesen, .... " lama ! mau nunggu ga ? " kalo sudah bilang gitu ya ..... bersabarlah untuk nunggu ampir 1 jam, walaupun begitu tetep aja ditungguin :)

Pindang Patin Bu Ucha Khas Meranjat

Hello all! This is my first post after an extremely long hiatus.
Since I got married, I seem to be travelling a lot & have been trying out new food places around Indonesia. Then I thought it'd be a shame if I don't document them as I go. I asked (and even begged) my husband to create this blog together, but it'll take some time before I can convince him to join. Having him will add so much humour in the writing, can't wait!
So here we are at the beginning of our adventure in life and in food!

I'm so lucky to be married to someone from a different island! Otherwise, I may never get the chance to step my foot outside Java island!

Masing-masing punya citarasa sendiri-sendiri ;)

Besoknya tinggal angetin kuahnya & defrost potongan ikannya, there you have it! A bowl of piping hot Pindang Patin in the comfort of your own home :)
